does anyone else have sudden urges to reinvent themselves, travel the world, starting jogging, learn new languages, learn to cook exotic foods, redecorate, or start journaling? like you’re just sitting there and all of a sudden you want to be able to speak fluent latin or look out over paris from the eiffel tower, or be standing over a shiny metal pot stirring some kind of soup in an apartment that’s perfect for yourself? because i get that a lot.

“Beginner Ride”
So there is a ride and it is advertised as a beginner ride. 8 miles or so. NO DROP.
My boyfriend drops me off at the starting location, and I struggle to put the front tire back on. Stupid quick release not lining up. This is nothing like my step thru commuter bike. This is already going so well… I walk over to the bibbed and jerseyed stick figure males standing in a circle with their fancy bikes and fancy sleek clothes. Literally no one turns around to greet me. I’m hard to miss in this context: white older road bike, bright pink pull over, and boobs and a butt that are hard to miss next to those slender guys. I guess they didn’t hear me ‘clip’-clopping over to them in my tennis shoes.
I know all the rules of the road, and how to balance and pedal on a bike… I commute to work almost daily and ride to the grocery store/pharmacy all the time. I’m a confident rider and woman in the bicycle and pedestrian planning and implementation profession. I wanted to branch out into recreational riding but my speed and distance are apparently not up to par for this “beginner” ride. The oldest guy in the group stayed with me the whole time while the rest of the all-male pack sped away in pelo formation. I felt like a total loser when I finally made it to the destination and they were all finishing up their food and one of them said “we never thought you would make it!” Pretty sure I turned even more beet red than I already was. I rode the 5 miles directly home and tried not to cry while I explained to my boyfriend why I did not ride back to the starting location with the rest of the group.
I have not been back to that “beginner ride” and have found fellow women to ride with. I hate to keep adding to the gender divide, but I see and feel it all the time while with recreational riders.
Guys, and speedy ladies… Greet the curvy, street clothes wearing newbie with kindness and respect. We are ALL trying to make the world a better place for bikes, but by excluding fellow bicyclists from the bicycle space, you are not helping with this mission.

I agree with everything EXCEPT NEVER TOWEL DRY CURLY HAIR! 0_O and shampoo it less often, condition more often and use wide tooth comb as well as cool or lukewarm water when washing it.
